Betty Irene Moore Natural Sciences Building
Oakland, California
EHDD designed the Natural Sciences Building at Mills College to offer a common gathering space for students and faculty from across the sciences to meet in an atmosphere of shared community. Acting as the front door to the sciences and a kinetic beacon to the campus, it houses the departments of Physics and Chemistry, providing four new teaching labs, five classrooms, and centralized offices for the faculty. The central courtyard acts as an outdoor classroom and gathering space for faculty and students, while the revitalized Botany courtyard promotes scientific exploration. The building received a LEED Platinum certification and is the first LEED-certified project on the campus.
