Honoring Chuck Davis

May 12, 2025

With profound sadness and deep respect, we share the passing of Charles Davis, fondly known as “Chuck”, FAIA, founding partner of EHDD.

Chuck leaves an extraordinary legacy— a visionary architect, mentor, and leader whose work helped shape not just our firm, but the broader architectural community and built environment. As the last of EHDD’s founders, his influence is woven into the fabric of our practice and culture, inspiring generations through his creativity, integrity, and deep commitment to the public good.

For more than half a century, Chuck guided and mentored architects, touched communities through his work, and set enduring standards for thoughtful, responsible design. His impact lives on in the many people he influenced and in the lasting relevance of his projects.

Chuck’s legacy is reflected across a remarkable range of projects—from pioneering aquarium designs at Monterey Bay Aquarium, to educational and research facilities throughout the University of California system, and cultural institutions like the Exploratorium. His vision endures in the institutions, communities, and environments he helped bring to life.

“With a boisterous laugh and a keen, practical eye, Chuck touched many lives with his generosity of time, mentorship, and ideas. Drawing from his vast frame of reference, he approached design with an appreciation of its complexity and importance—understanding that design responds to real problems, not merely formal ones.” Jennifer Devlin-Herbert

We will be celebrating his life and legacy over the coming weeks and invite you to join us in honoring his memory.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Chuck’s family and all who had the privilege to know and work with him.
