UC Santa Cruz East Campus Infill Student Housing

Santa Cruz, California

University of California, Santa Cruz’s East Campus Infill Housing provides a new model for denser campus development, emerging from the university’s long-range plan. At eight stories, the two simple, bar buildings are twice the size of the largest previous campus structures, yet they invoke the scale and texture of their redwood grove context through a rich interplay of bay windows, colors, light and shadow̶all executed within a strict budget. Designed to achieve LEED Gold certification̶and required to limit storm water runoff to no more than 1% above original, pre-university levels̶the project will form a gateway to proposed campus expansion to the east.
