Hudson River Park Estuarium
New York, NY
A riverfront hub for hands-on learning and estuarine research in the heart of New York City.
Currently in design, the Hudson River Park Estuarium is a ground-up educational and research facility that will connect New Yorkers to the rich ecology of the Hudson River—one of the largest estuaries in the United States. EHDD is providing architectural and interior design services for this 10,000-square-foot project, targeting LEED Gold certification.
Conceived as a nature center rather than a large-scale aquarium, the Estuarium will serve as the new home for the Hudson River Park Trust’s Wet Lab, replacing its existing warehouse space with a modern, year-round educational venue. Located between Piers 25 and 26 in Tribeca, the building will include a flow-through river water system, interactive exhibits, touch pools, and a flexible classroom used by students from across the city and region.
The facility will also feature a micro lab for real-time environmental monitoring and scientific research. A generous, welcoming entryway doubles as an outdoor classroom, offering space for informal learning and community events. In addition to supporting the Trust’s conservation and research mission, the Estuarium will foster collaboration with local marine scientists and ecologists.
Designed to be approachable, educational, and ecologically responsive, the Estuarium transforms a high-profile waterfront site into a gateway for environmental stewardship.
